2017 Radical Consciousness Conference

"Living With(In) Borders...Navigating Identity Politics"

The Center for Social Justice invites students to participate in the Inaugural 2017 Radical Consciousness Conference (RCC) by registering for the conference.

This year our theme is “Living With(In) Borders...Navigating Identity Politics” with keynote speaker Rosa Clemente. Rosa Clemente is an Afro-Latinx political commentator, community organizer, independent journalisr, and 2008 Green Party Vice-Presidential candidate. To learn more,  Rosa Clemente please visit:

The main focus of The RCC will be to build a foundation of knowledge that will enhance student success in leadership experience and empower students to engage in social justice work in the ever changing socio-political climate. The framework of the 2017 RCC is a marriage of Gloria Anzaldua’s La Frontera/Borderlands Mestiza framework and W.E.B. DuBois’ Double Consciousness Social Identity analysis, in the context of Third Space politics such as at the university. These aims will be facilitated through peer led break-out sessions, workshops, as well as offering opportunities for students to introduce posters, papers, and thesis on aligning topics of social justice.

Participants will get the opportunity to attend various sessions in the categories of:

  • Racial/Ethnic Identities
  • Multiple Identities/Intersectional Identities
  • Activism/Advocacy
  • Community Healing
