Description
Major emergencies can and do happen. If an emergency or disaster happens on our campus, are you prepared to help yourself, your roommate or your classmates?
Our campus has more than 30,000 students. And on any given day, during the semester our campus can play host to more than 4,000 faculty, staff, and visitors. That means that in the event of a large-scale disaster, first responders might not be able to help all of those affected right away. That’s where you can come in!
CERT training can provide a few basic skills that can prepare you to stay safe and help those around you in the event of an emergency in the classroom, on campus, or at home. Our #RebelCERT program will educate and train volunteers in disaster preparedness and empower participants to take on more active roles in campus resilience by supporting emergency responders during and after an emergency, as well as during large exercises and public events.
#RebelCERT volunteers can help to prepare campuses for a wide variety of incidents, such as acts of violence, natural disasters, serious illnesses, and emergencies involving hazardous materials. This program can also help our university recover more quickly from a disaster and reduce its impact on the campus. For example, #RebelCERT volunteers can support an evacuation by ushering faculty, staff, and students to safety, or provide immediate, basic first aid until professional responders arrive.
Because of YOU, our campus can be a better-prepared and more resilient community.
