Description

Nowruz—which means “new day”—is a holiday marking the arrival of spring and the first day of the year in Perian culture whose solar calendar begins with the vernal equinox. Nowruz has been celebrated in Iran and the Persian diaspora for more than 3,000 years. Nowruz is also celebrated in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and some provinces in other countries. Historically, the main element of Nowruz is Haftsin, a traditional table setting representing seven symbols of life and fertility. Join us celebrating Nowruz in Houssels House, enjoying Persian food, delights, and dance. This cultural event is free and sponsored by the UNLV SDP office.
