Description
NEXTET new music series, the contemporary chamber music series here at the UNLV School of music, features 20th and 21st concert music performed by UNLV faculty, students, and guest artists. Directed by Dr. Jennifer Bellor, this concert will feature music by Catherine Likhuta, Russ Peterson, Todd Mason, Gene Koshinski, Tasos Peltekis, and Tan Dun.
Fifty percent of the concert will also feature premieres (world premieres or west coast premieres) and the composers whose works will be premiered will be in attendance at the concert! NEXTET guest saxophonist and composer Russ Peterson will perform his work "Trio for Viola, Alto Sax and Piano" with UNLV faculty violist Kate Hamilton and NEXTET guest pianist Jay Herschberger. Composer Todd Mason will be in attendance and will talk about his work "Duo for Violin & Viola," which will open the concert and feature Kate along with UNLV violinist Ambroise Aubrun. Graduate student composer Tasos Peltekis will perform guitar on his new piece, "Voyage," which will also feature cellist Jeayoung Jo.
Other works on the program include Gene Koshinski’s "As One" featuring UNLV graduate student percussionists Ryan Bond and Andrew Naughton, Tan Dun’s "Eight Memories in Watercolor" featuring UNLV graduate student pianist Zhenyu Yan, and Catherine Likhuta’s "Out of the Woods?" featuring UNLV faculty Bill Bernatis (horn), Ambroise Aubrun (violin) and Katie Leung (piano).
