Nevada SSN OpEd Writing Workshop

Mar. 25, 2022, 12pm to 1:30pm

Office/Remote Location

The Nevada chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) is excited to host an OpEd writing workshop for all interested researchers, including graduate students, on March 25, 2022 at noon, PT.  Register here.

Participants will hear from Elizabeth Thompson, editor at the Nevada Independent, about what she looks for in OpEds written by academics. The remainder of the workshop will be facilitated SSN staff.

The OpEd workshop is a hands-on training for scholars who want to learn how to write and pitch compelling, research-based OpEds. Participants will learn how to craft a good lede, identify and incorporate timely news hooks, signal the author’s unique and relevant expertise, increase the likelihood of publication, and structure an OpEd for maximum impact. The workshop is great for all scholars, whether they have written OpEds before or are just starting to think about writing their first.

Participants are asked to come prepared with an idea for an OpEd in mind and will be guided through shaping their idea into a first draft.

The workshop will run for 90 minutes.
