Description
Just like in any work environment, differences in perspectives can arise between mentors (faculty, postdoctoral scholars, or graduate students) and their mentees (postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and undergraduate students) in an academic setting. If these challenges are not addressed in such a way that recognizes the interests and perspectives of all parties involved, they can magnify and become major conflicts and obstacles. To help cultivate strong and healthy mentor-mentee relationships, this workshop will expose graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to negotiation strategies, consensus building techniques, and problem-solving approaches to conflicts/concerns.
By participating in this workshop, you will:
-
Identify common challenges encountered between mentors and mentees in academic settings
-
Learn negotiation strategies, consensus building techniques, and problem-solving approaches to help to resolve and minimize these conflicts or concerns
