The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Chamber Chorale will host the twenty-ninth annual Invitational Madrigal/Chamber Choir Festival in two separate sessions beginning at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Dr. Arturo Rando-Grillot Recital Hall located on the northeast end of the university campus in the Lee & Thomas Beam Music Center.
The Madrigal/Chamber Choir Festival is one of many events presented by the university choral ensembles each year. Established in 1985 as a small, informal gathering of choruses, the festival has grown into a popular musical event that attracts many outstanding choirs as well as a large enthusiastic audience of music lovers from throughout the community. A variety of music will be performed representing many composers and styles. Following each choir's performance the floor will be open for comments and questions from the audience members and festival participants.
The afternoon festival includes performances by chamber ensembles from Centennial High School (David Wankier), Clark High School (Rob West), Durango High School (Lesa Ramirez), Eldorado High School (Matt Ostlie), Las Vegas Academy of the Arts (Megan Franke), Las Vegas High School (Janet Tyler), Mojave High School (Shirley Wilson), Sierra Vista High School (Alanna Gallo) and Silverado High School (Tracy Hunsaker).
The evening festival features performances by ensembles from Basic High School (Ryan Duff), Chaparral High School (Barry Isbell), Cheyenne High School (Jim Halvorson), Coronado High School (Eric Fleischer), Desert Oasis High School (Michael Polutnik), Foothill High School (Kimberly Snavely), Green Valley High School (Kim Ritzer), Legacy High School (William McKoy) and College of Southern Nevada (Mark Wherry).
Both festival sessions will conclude with a brief performance by the UNLV Chamber Chorale conducted by David Weiller, director of choral studies.
Two sessions are free and open to the public, 4 & 7 p.m.
