The College of Liberal Arts’ University Forum Lecture Series presents “Jane Austen and Film: From Hampshire to Hollywood,” a talk by Dr. Regulus L. Allen, Associate Professor of English, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Prof. Regulus L Allen will give an illustrated lecture, “Jane Austen and Film:  From Hampshire to Hollywood,” that explores the current explosion of interest in all things Jane Austen, and especially the films made after her fiction since 1995.

She will address the three types of film adaptation identified by Geoffrey Wagner as 1) a faithful retelling, 2) a commentary, and 3) a filmic analogy à la Clueless. Prof. Allen will also discuss the culture of film and the way Hollywood foregrounds certain themes for the sake of Austen’s continuing relevance.
