Apr. 12, 2021, 11:30am to 12:30pm

Office/Remote Location

UNLV Anthropology Professor Dr. Alan Farahani will give a talk discussing preliminary results, or first fruits, of archaeological research into ancient agriculture that has been conducted in UNLV's Paleoethnobotany and Ancient Agriculture Laboratory (PAAL).  Several case studies will be discussed from archaeological research in southwest Asia dating from early agriculture to the late Medieval period that includes the contemporary states of Armenia, Jordan, and more.  Each example will highlight the contribution of UNLV undergraduate and graduate students, as well as the ways in which archaeologists and anthropologists can use the remains of people's food refuse to learn about human culture, politics, and conceptions of the self in the past.
