Grad Rebel Workshop: Building a Teaching Portfolio

Academic job applications typically require a teaching portfolio. Often you must figure out what components should be in your portfolio and how it is structured so that the materials are coherent and best represent your teaching practices.  

By participating in this workshop you will:

  • Learn about what goes into a teaching portfolio and how to best structure it

  • Discuss tips and tricks for writing a strong teaching statement

  • Understand why the portfolio is an important component of your application for an academic position

  • Workshop a draft or completed teaching statement with other workshop attendees (if there is time remaining)

For this workshop, please bring at least two print copies (or a digital copy) of either a  draft or completed teaching statement. If there is time remaining, participants will exchange their teaching statements with other workshop attendees, allowing participants to both provide and receive feedback. There will be a faculty member present to answer any questions on teaching statements.

After this workshop, you will be prepared to begin constructing your teaching portfolio or drafting/revising your teaching statement to ensure that both accurately reflect your beliefs and experiences in the classroom. All teaching experience levels are welcome to attend the workshop.
