This workshop is part of our Grad Rebel Appreciation Week, which celebrates the incredible contribution that graduate students make to the mission of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas through their efforts in research, service, and teaching.

Project management is an important transferable skill, that many graduate students do not even realize they have. As graduate students, you manage a project or projects from start to end (e.g., thesis, dissertation, capstone project, etc.). As part of this project/projects, you must identify goals and/or tasks that need to be accomplished, create a realistic timeline for completion of them, prioritize tasks to ensure that the project is done on-time, and you often have to maintain flexibility while working on such tasks. Project management is not unique to graduate school, but is a highly sought after skill in various career pathways (e.g., academia, industry, non-profit, government). By participating in this workshop you will gain the following knowledge and skills to help you be a more effective project manager:

  • Learn how to establish professional relationships with your team

  • Learn how to motivate your team as their leader

  • Discuss strategies for aligning goals and expectations between you (as the project manager) and members of your team

  • Discuss how to provide constructive feedback on projects, including when they are not going as planned

  • Dr. Toni Repetti, Associate Professor,  Hospitality

  • Nikkie Ellis, Infinity Hospice Care

  • Meg Schroeder, Vice President of Operations at Marketing Results, MHA'15

Lifecycle Stage: Early, Middle, and Late Master’s and Early, Middle, and Late Doctoral
