Description
The geoscience department weekly seminar presents:
Speaker: Dr. Christine Y. Chen
Topic: U-Th Dating of Lake Sediments: Lessons from the 700 ka Sediment Record of Lake Junín, Peru
A "who-dunit" mystery about uranium, told through the eyes of a frazzled graduate student as she struggles to make sense of strange data on mud from the depths of a remote alpine lake. A group of scientists want to know one thing: how old is this mud? Knowing the answer to this question could unlock many secrets about strange phenomena in the world. Follow the story of an unsuspecting graduate student as she encounters, and begrudgingly tolerates, unforeseen obstacles on a project whose trajectory no one could predict.
