Description

The UNLV Center for Democratic Culture is pleased to announce the Fourth Nevada Conference on Russian Art and Culture on November 17-18. This international event brings to Las Vegas renowned scholars, writers, and artists who will discuss Russian politics and culture in the age of counterperestroika. The discussion focuses on the plight of the Russian intelligentsia struggling to retain its civil liberties and creative freedom in an increasingly repressive environment. Among the conference participants are a winner of international literary prizes Lyudmila Ulitskaya, legendary Russian rock musician Boris Grebenshchikov, singer Timur Shaov, and poet Vera Pavlova; internationally acclaimed students of Russian culture Natalia Ivanova, Alexander Zholkovsky, Vladimir Paperny, Mikhail Epstein, Mark Lipovetsky, and Gasan Gusejnov; director of the Levada Public Opinion Center Lev Gudkov and Radio Liberty program host Alexander Genis; civil rights leaders and public intellectuals Leonid Gozman, Pavel Litvinov, and Mikhail Fishman.

Please refer to the conference program for further information.
