Fitness Instructor Training: Personal Training

UNLV Campus Recreational Services' Fitness Instructor Training (F.I.T.) courses combines lecture & practical application to cover the basics of personal fitness training. It's an excellent way to review for the national certification exams and it's a great way for individuals interested in the fitness industry.

The topics covered include:

  • Basic anatomy & physiology
  • Program design
  • Exercise prescription
  • Conducting a fitness assessment
  • Proper exercise technique & form
  • Injury prevention
  • Interacting with clients


Previous experience in the subject matter is recommended, but not required.

Participants must attend all of the weekend workshop & practical application days.

Workshop Days:

  • Fri., Sept. 6, 3-9 p.m.
  • Sat., Sept. 7, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • Sun., Sept. 8, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.


Practical Application Days:

  • Tue., Sept. 10, 6-9 p.m.
  • Tue., Sept. 17, 6-9 p.m.
  • Tue., Sept. 24, 6-9 p.m.


Additionally, you will be assigned a test client to complete five personal training sessions.

Admission Information

Registration Fee; including a manual

  • Students - $50
  • Faculty/Staff & Community = $150
