An Evening of New Music and Art: Music by David Conte and UNLV School of Music Student Composers
Nextet new music series, the Composition Division, and the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art present: An Evening of New Music and Art with guest composer David Conte and UNLV student composers. Curated by Dr. Jennifer Bellor, this concert will present music by guest composer David Conte and new works by UNLV student composers written for guitar. All of the music will be paired with artworks from the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art.
The display will include works from current exhibitions such as Still Motion, The Mojave Project, Spirit of the Land, and “Untitled” (L.A.). UNLV School of Music student composers Brittney Benton, Zoe Conrad, Francyl Gawryn, Coreen Levin, and Tasos Peltekis will present new compositions paired with the artwork of their choice. Guitarists Tasos Peltekis, Kyle Khembunjong, and Michael Morgan will perform these works.
Composer David Conte will be in residence with the UNLV Composition Division and at this event. A selection of his works will also be presented, including Of a Summer Evening featuring guitarists Andrew Amaya and Coby Barker, two movements from his String Quartet No. 2 featuring the graduate student string quartet, selections from Three Mexican Folk Songs, and an arrangement of his Hosanna featuring Dr. Shawna Pennock and the UNLV saxophone studio. The performers will choose artwork on display to pair with the music.
