During this workshop, participants will 1- understand the purposes and written conventions of effective teaching statements and 2- brainstorm ideas and a structure for their own teaching statement. This workshop will be most appropriate for folks who are trying to write their first teaching statement; the goal here is really to understand how a teaching statement is used in the job market and the big "moves" that must be made in a teaching statement (core belief about teaching/teaching in the specialty, illustration of this belief in teaching practice ideally across multiple courses, evidence that this belief/practice impacts student learning).
