UNLV School of Dental Medicine Student Research Day Symposium will feature:
- Noon - 1 p.m. -- Student presentations from the top finishers in the pre-doctoral and post-graduate resident research competitions;
- 1 - 2 p.m. -- Guest speaker presentation by Rena D'Souza, DDS, MS, PhD, from the University of Utah School of Dentistry; and
- 2 - 3 p.m. -- Reception and poster viewing of all student research projects.
Dr. Rena D’Souza, assistant vice president for academic affairs and education at the University of Utah, is professor of dental sciences, neurobiology & anatomy, pathology, surgery and biomedical engineering. Throughout her career as a clinician-scientist, Dr. D’Souza has been dedicated to discovery and mentoring. She has received 15 institutional awards for teaching excellence and is the recipient of the 2017 Irvin Mandel Distinguished Mentor Award from the American Association for Dental Research (AADR).
Dr. D’Souza has authored over 150 publications and book chapters, and has maintained an active research program for over 30 years through grant awards from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agencies. She has also led two major NIH-funded institutional grants that supported the research training of dentists and dentist-scientists.
She is a fellow of AADR and American Association for the Advancement of Science, and was inducted into the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) in 2012. Dr. D’Souza is past-president of AADR and International Association for Dental Research.
