Description
The College of Liberal Arts, University Forum Lecture Series presents “Conflicted Identities: College Students with Disabilities,” a talk by Maria Pena, Associate Director, Disability Resource Center, UNLV
With the advent of civil rights litigation in the United States, the numbers of College Students with Disabilities have grown exponentially. Requests for disability accommodations in classes, student housing and on campus have risen substantially, and as a result issues arise. Who are the College Students with Disabilities? Why are the numbers so high, and complaints and court cases so prevalent? What was common practice for accommodation 20 years ago may not exist today. Why? Maria Pena will attempt to answer these questions.
