Description
The UNLV Composers Concert presents the San Diego-based toy piano trio, Figmentum and new works composed by student composers in collaboration with writers. From 5:30pm-6:30pm, Figmentum, with their motley array of trinkets and tunemakers, will present a one-hour lecture recital exploring the world of toy pianos. This performance will explore the pitfalls and possibilities of arranging piano works for toy pianos, the compositional possibilities of the deconstructed toy piano, and an exploration of chamber music for traditional orchestral instruments and toy piano. Works will include Bill Sussman’s Quiet Rhythms: Prologue and Action No. 5, Alex Temple's Thick Line, and a new commission hot off the presses in 2019.
The second half of the concert will feature the student composer-writer collaborations. Presented by composition faculty Dr. Jennifer Bellor, composer, and English department faculty Dr. Eryn Green, poet, student composers collaborated with writers to create new works for performance. See program for more details.
This will be a fun and unique event you do not want to miss!
