Graduate faculty mentors/advisors play a critical role in the development of graduate students as they progress through their degree program. These professional relationships also often continue beyond a student’s time at UNLV. Both the advisor/mentor and the graduate student are responsible for the success of the relationship. Communication and the ability to resolve issues in a professional manner are key to a healthy and productive mentor/advisor-mentee relationship.

By participating in this workshop you will:

  • Learn skills that help you better communicate and resolve issues with your faculty mentor/advisor

  • Appreciate the goals that are shared by you and your advisor/mentor

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of mentors and mentees

  • Learn strategies to manage communications, goals, expectations, and meetings with your advisor

Life Cycle Stage: Early Master’s & Early Doctoral (but all graduate students welcome)

Pillars of Professional Development: Career Development, Mentorship
