Description

It is clear that research conducted at universities plays an important role in shaping federal policy. However, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars may not know how to be an advocate for research, how to engage with policymakers, or have a strong understanding of the federal policy-making process. To ensure that policy-makers are creating policy grounded in research, it is important for scholars to cultivate skills that empower them as research advocates.

By participating in this workshop you will:

  • Understand the federal policy-making process, including the structure and organization of congress and the federal budget and appropriations processes

  • Discuss tools for how to effectively communicate your research to federal policymakers

  • Learn about best practices for engaging in dialogue with federal policymakers

Please note: The first 30 minutes will be a panel led by Dr. Jason Wasden, followed by an hour panel with federal policymakers.
