Budgeting Income and Expenses

When

Sep. 13, 2021, 12pm to 1pm

Office/Remote Location

Hybrid: Gather 1 & 2 (GTW 268 & 269) & Webex

Description

In her book,  All Your Worth: The Ultimate Lifetime Money Plan, Senator Elizabeth Warren popularized the"50/20/30 budget rule". The basic rule is to divide up after-tax income and allocate it to spend: 50% on needs, 30% on wants, and socking away 20% to savings. As a Graduate Student, your “needs” may include the standard food, shelter, and water; but do paying for classes and books also fall under this category? What should or shouldn’t fall under each category is ultimately a personal choice. Join us for this interactive workshop to discuss real life challenges of budgeting income and expenses as a graduate student. By participating in this workshop you will:

  • Learn strategies for creating and maintaining a budget so you can pay off debt and accomplish your short- and long-term financial goals
  • Learn about apps that help you stay on track with your budgeting goals
  • Discuss investing and importance of compounding
