Description

The College of Liberal Arts, University Forum Lecture Series, the UNLV Department of Art, and UNLV Scientistas present “Bringing More Play & Belonging into Our World,” a talk by Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, Multidisciplinary Artist & Researcher.

It's easy to dismiss the importance of play and belonging in our lives. But science confirms what we have known deep down all along: that encouraging play and fostering belonging are essential to a healthy human experience. Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya explains how her innovative work at the intersection of science, technology, art, and feminism can help to create a society that nourishes us all. Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya is a two-time TED speaker whose background in neuroscience brought her to a career that fuses science and the arts. She is the founder and CEO of The Leading Strand, an organization that translates complex research into visual communication; the artist behind Beyond Curie, an award-winning portrait series that celebrates the rich history of women in STEM fields; and the founder of ATOMIC by Design, a science-positive clothing line and science club for girls. Her exhibition Connective Tissue is on view at the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art from September 13th, 2019 to February 22nd, 2020. Attendees are welcome to view the exhibition with the artist following the lecture.
