Billy-Ray Belcourt

Description

Billy-Ray’s debut poetry collection, This Wound is a World, turns to love and sex to understand how Indigenous peoples shoulder sadness and pain without giving up on the future. Spend an evening with BMI as we delve into this collection, which is part manifesto, part memoir.

Billy-Ray Belcourt is from the Driftpile Cree Nation. He is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alberta, and a 2016 Rhodes Scholar who holds a MSt in Women’s Studies from the University of Oxford. His poems upset genre and play with form, scavenging for a decolonial kind of heaven where “everyone is at least a little gay.”
