To Swerve or Not to Swerve: How Literature Navigates the Past A Conversation with Stephen Greenblatt and Geraldine Brooks Black Mountain Institute is proud to welcome two of the most celebrated writers working at the crossroads of literature and history. Preeminent literary historian Stephen Greenblatt and best-selling historical novelist Geraldine Brooks will join us to discuss how our literature shapes and is shaped by our understanding of the past. Stephen Greenblatt’s books include "Swerve: How the World Became Modern," winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, and the acclaimed Shakespeare biography "Will in the World." Geraldine Brooks won the Pulitzer Prize for her novel "March," which imagines the life of the absent father of Louisa May Alcott’s "Little Women." Her most recent novel is the New York Times best seller "Caleb’s Crossing."
