Join Francisco Menendez in the Barrick Museum of Art Auditorium for an educational College of Fine Arts Symposium. The symposium is focused on Menendez's adaptation of Bitter Grounds into an immersive virtual reality experience.  Evocative and moving, Sandra Benitez's American Book Award-winning novel Bitter Grounds explores change and loss through three generations of El Salvadorean women who work on a coffee plantation.

Visitors will enter the world of Bitter Grounds and experience a pivotal moment of conflict in chapter three that alters the course of the characters’ lives. This immersive experience is free but viewer discretion is advised due to violent content. Make an appointment by calling or emailing the Barrick Museum of Art at 702-895-3381 or

Appointments are for 15 minutes.
