Description
We Believed in N0thing; Chapter Tw0, which follows up on a previous exhibition similarly named, explores the potential of black and white film photography. Fourteen student artists are united in their commitment to black and white film photography as a potent medium. They work to create in-your-face, beautifully brutal, stark, and darkly humorous images of their lives. These artists explore what matters to them: death, rebirth, metaphysics, diversity, queer pride, sensuality, and the importance of home––their lives on ruined streets, in overgrown backyards, in abandoned lots, and in uncanny suburban houses of Las Vegas.
This exhibition of images by photo-based artists, from UNLV Freshman through BFA students, presents work shot with 35mm, medium format, 4” x 5” analog film, and printed as traditional silver prints. Their stylistic approaches range from staged, surrealist imagery to documentary photography.
