Art Exhibition: Battery Diamond
Campus Location
Office/Remote Location

Description
Employing labor-intensive craft and repetition, Battery Diamond constructs unfinished thoughts for the audience to read and consider; further examining language as a tool of oppression. In her new work, Ramirez suggests language and culture are inseparable and explores the power of linguistic dominance as an influence over people, both intellectually and emotionally. With a special interest in handmade poster board signs, Ramirez presents them as a performative medium of expression used at political rallies by protesters and as a practical means of communication for vendors at swap meets. The ubiquity of such signs in social media is used to inspect our use of language within popular culture and the shaping of gender, race, and politics in the digital age.
