2022 NSHE Southern Nevada Diversity Summit Hosted by UNLV
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) organizes diversity summits each year in Northern and Southern Nevada as a way to promote inclusive policies and practices across its member institutions.
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is the host of the 2022 Southern Nevada Diversity Summit. This free, in-person event takes place on Fri. Oct. 7, 2022, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., on the main UNLV campus.
Breakout sessions throughout the day will cover a broad range of topics around this year’s theme, "Embracing Community Care: Higher Education's Role in Addressing Health Inequities."
The keynote address will be give by Eric Deggans. A journalist for more than 20 years, he is the author of "Race-Baiter: How the Media Wields Dangerous Words to Divide a Nation," a look at how prejudice, racism and sexism fuels some elements of modern media. Find out more about Eric.
The lunch keynote address will be given by Haben Girma. The first Deafblind person to graduate from Harvard Law School, Haben Girma is a human rights lawyer advancing disability justice. Haben believes disability is an opportunity for innovation, and she teaches organizations the importance of choosing inclusion. Find out more about Haben.
In addition to the keynote addresses, the summit will include sessions focused primarily on strategies to advance institutional equity, intercultural education, and promote access and success for individuals from diverse identity groups in higher education. Participants represent executive leadership, faculty, staff, students from NSHE institutions, community partners and the public.
