The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art in collaboration with the UNLV Public History program will open its annual Day of the Dead ofrenda on October 1, 2018 in recognition of the ongoing repercussions of the shooting in 2017. From 1 - 3:30 p.m. you are invited to help us build a community around tragedy by adding your own voice to the ofrenda’s chorus of hanging paper notes. Our handwritten wishes, names of ancestors, heartfelt lyrics, and other tokens of personal expression will coexist at the Barrick for a month. This traditional Mexican ritual offers us an opportunity to acknowledge loss and heal the living.
The exhibition will remain available through November 5, 2018 during Museum hours:
- Monday - Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Saturday 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
This exhibition is curated at the discretion of the Museum and UNLV Public History; no perishables or live flames, please.
