Graduate Certificate in Nuclear Safeguards & Security

The graduate Nuclear Safeguards and Security (NSS) Certificate program will provide graduate students and practicing engineers (and their employers) a diverse education with components that will help train and maintain a well-qualified workforce. The UNLV NSS Certificate will provide evidence that the graduate has the appropriate education to become a nuclear safeguards and security engineer in NRC-licensed facilities and US DOE’s national laboratories.

Learning Objectives

  • Graduates will be technically competent in nuclear safeguards and security areas of the nuclear engineering discipline.
  • Graduates will be able to develop engineering solutions for nuclear safeguards and security based on radiation detection systems, radiation sources, and data analysis systems.
  • Graduates will be able to work within an interdisciplinary team and effectively communicate with their peers and colleagues, conducting themselves in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Graduates will be able to find gainful employment locally or nationally, and function effectively in a progressing nuclear engineering field.
