Nov. 16, 2022

A new training opportunity is available for supervisors of classified staff in REBELearn: Leading in a Collective Bargaining Environment Series. The pre-recorded training is designed to guide supervisors through business processes that have changed as a result of UNLV now being a collective bargaining (union) entity.

Hosted by the State of Nevada Division of Human Resource Management’s Labor Relations Unit, the training is divided into five modules and is facilitated by Lisa Culp, a leadership trainer for the State of Nevada.

Supervisors can design their own track and may take as many courses as they’d like in their preferred order. The first session - Unfair Labor Practices - is the only session that is required before taking others.

Training Modules

Unfair Labor Practices
Time: Approximately two (2) hours
Description: This module sets the tone of partnership and collaboration vs. power and contention when working with unions. Unfair Labor Practices must be completed first with subsequent modules in any order.
** This module is a prerequisite for all other modules.

Setting Expectations
Time: Approximately two (2) hours
Description: This module helps leaders develop a trusting culture around change, starting with excellence in onboarding practices.

Employee Engagement
Time: Approximately two (2) hours
Description: This module identifies the behaviors of highly engaged and non-engaged employees and their effect on the team with whom they work. Managers and leaders will learn how to appropriately reward, guide, and discipline employees in a collective bargaining environment, with a union presence.

Managing Conflict
Time: Approximately two (2) hours
Description: This module will help leaders understand their own perceptions and responses to conflict to better handle conflict with employees.

Documenting Discipline
Time: Approximately two (2) hours
Description: This module describes changes to the complaint and grievance processes within the State of Nevada. Embracing these changes will lead to clear and concise leadership around disciplinary actions, including those with union representation.

Registration is required. If you have any questions about registering or accessing the Leading in a Collective Bargaining Environment Series training, email REBELearn@unlv.edu using your UNLV email address.
