Printmaking with Ellsworth: A Conversation with Erik Beehn
March 16, 2016 6 - 7pm
Erik Beehn worked with Ellsworth Kelly as a project collaborator at Gemini Graphic Editions Limited between 2005 - 2010. Gemini G.E.L. is an artists’ workshop and publisher of fine-art limited edition prints and sculptures.
“It was the project collaborators job to become an extension of the artists voice when the artist was not present. When the artist was in the studio collaborators assisted as necessary, but once the artist was gone it was the collaborators job to maintain the integrity of the project and to keep with the artists expectations. Ellsworth Kelly had extremely high expectations and often came in with an idea of what he hoped to achieve in the project. Ellsworth had an acute sensibility for fine-tuning details, whether it was a curve or a color, we often spent weeks at a time mixing tens of pounds of ink a day for his projects, just to get the color to his specifications. His prints were some of the most difficult prints I ever worked on, deceivingly simplistic in their execution, both tedious and precise.”
Printmaking with Ellsworth is held in conjunction with the exhibition Ellsworth Kelly on display February 12 - May 14, 2016 in the Barrick’s INNER GALLERY.
