Tomorrow, our nation will celebrate Veterans Day, a time when we honor the incredible commitment and sacrifices of the millions of military veterans who have served our nation.

I grew up in a military family, and I have a deep respect for our service men and women and all they do and have done to ensure our freedoms.  This includes the more than 1,600 military affiliated students who are currently enrolled at UNLV.

Our student veterans may not fit the traditional mold of UNLV undergraduates or grad students – their life experiences are certainly different, they may be a bit older, and their needs are unique. But we’re all Rebels, and our student veterans deserve our best.

I’m proud to lead a university recognized among the nation’s best for student veterans, thanks in large part to the work of our Military & Veteran Services Center over the past decade. From academic support to disability resources, peer and professional counseling, and help processing VA paperwork, the center’s team is dedicated to the academic and personal success of UNLV’s student veterans. Over the past 10 years, more than 8,000 military-affiliated students have been served by the center.

I invite you to read more about the UNLV Military & Veteran Services Center and its work. And, as our community and nation prepares to honor our military veterans tomorrow, let us all take a moment today – and every day – to honor the sacrifices of men and women who have served.
