Resolution No. 6 of the 32nd Session

Introduced by the Graduate & Professional Student Association (GPSA)

WHEREAS, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in 2009 and 2011 implemented furloughs, unpaid leaves and pay cuts to the university’s faculty and staff based upon 4.6% and 4.8% of actual salary lines due to campus budget cuts;

WHEREAS, these implemented furloughs, unpaid leaves and pay cuts have negatively impacted the quality of education, availability of offered courses and the degree value for graduate and professional students at UNLV;

LET IT BE RESOLVED, the GPSA supports the UNLV’s Faculty Senate Resolution approved April 17, 2012 to restore both faculty and staff compensation;

LET IT BE RESOLVED, the GPSA supports the Board of Regents  recommendations for the  2013-2015 Biennium Budget in which the  restoration of NSHE employees pay reductions, step\merit, and longevity are “its highest priority in enhancement”;

LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the GPSA supports prioritizing the reinstatement of compensation of UNLV’s classified and professional staff and faculty members;

LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Graduate & Professional Student Association will send this approved resolution to the President of University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents.
