Several people watch as a woman wearing a leather apron helps a small girl hold a ladle over a water-filled metal bucket. A stylized red eye is printed on the concrete by their feet. Everyone in this picture is standing under an awning on a sunny day outdoors.

Throughout the rest of the year we’ll be recording interviews with the artists, curators, and others who help us bring our galleries to life. You can find us on KUNV 91.5 at 8:30 a.m. PST on the fifth Sunday of every month that has five Sundays. (Most of them have four.)

Those dates are:

January 29
April 30
July 30
October 29
December 31

The episode on January 29, which featured our Programming Manager LeiAnn Huddleston in conversation with Thomas Putzier and Joanne Russ from The Neon Museum, has already aired. You can find it, along with our other past discussions, on Transistor.fm, Apple Podcasts, and other podcasting platforms.

In 2022 we covered a range of topics, including Afrofuturism, curating for a cause, the legacy of the late artist Ana Mendieta, the process of creating live performances, and the development of a new student club for poured metal sculpture at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (pictured). We’re looking forward to finding out where 2023 will take us. We hope you’ll be part of it.

About the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art believes everyone deserves access to art that challenges our understanding of the present and inspires us to create a future that holds space for us all. Located on the campus of one of the most racially diverse university in the United States, we strive to create a nourishing environment for those who continue to be neglected by contemporary art museums, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ groups. As the only art museum in the city of Las Vegas, we commit ourselves to leveling barriers that limit access to the arts, especially for first-time visitors. To facilitate access for low-income guests we provide free entry to all our exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and community activities. Our collection of artworks offers an opportunity for researchers and scholars to develop a more extensive knowledge of contemporary art in Southern Nevada. The Barrick Museum is part of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).

All of the museum’s galleries are accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors who cannot use stairs. Services such as sign language interpretation can be arranged. Please contact the museum to discuss your needs: barrick.museum@unlv.edu, 702-895-3381.
