Hello colleagues,

Parking and Transportation Services is launching a new virtual parking permit system in spring 2022. The system uses license plate recognition (LPR) technology to connect license plates to annual, semester, and nine-month parking permits and hourly or daily parking purchased through the free PaybyPhone app. This means your license plate will be your parking permit and you will no longer need to display a parking tag for these permits on your vehicle. To ensure a smooth transition to this new system, please review the following information:

Since your license plate is now your permit, it is extremely important that the license plate numbers listed for each vehicle attached to your permit are accurate.

    • Login to the parking permit portal to verify this information

    • If you have a specialty plate that has vertical letters preceding the numbers, be sure to include these letters

  • Be sure all vehicles you could potentially drive to campus are reflected on your account

    • Even though you can add more than one vehicle to your account, remember, you can only park one vehicle on campus at a time, as the LPR system will notice any additional registered vehicles being parked at the same time

  • Your digital permit denotes whether you are a student, staff, faculty, or resident and is valid for those designated spaces

  • All license plates must be visible from the drive aisle

    • To ensure your license plate is visible, pull into parking spaces instead of backing into them unless you have a front plate attached to the vehicle

  • Annual, semester, and nine-month parking permits are available for purchase online on the Parking and Transportation Services website

    • The website includes detailed instructions for how to use the parking portal

    • Once your purchase is complete, you are ready to park on campus. For the remainder of this year you will continue to receive a permit/sticker, which will be optional to display. Starting in the fall of 2022, you will no longer receive a permit/sticker after registration/renewal.

Weekly and monthly permits must be purchased in person at the Parking and Transportation Services office at the Claude I. Howard public safety building. You must display tags for these permits on your vehicle.

We hope the new digital permit system makes parking on UNLV’s campus more convenient and efficient.

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
