It is with profound sadness that Ross Bryant and the team at UNLV’s Military & Veteran Services Center announce the passing of beloved longtime staff member Sharon Savage. Sharon died April 23 following a prolonged illness.

Sharon was a consistent, positive presence on UNLV’s campus for more than 15 years. As a valued member of the MVSC, Sharon helped the program grow from its infancy into one of the premier organizations of its kind in the nation.

For the past 10 years, Sharon worked tirelessly to help UNLV’s student veterans succeed in their transition from military to civilian life. She staffed the front desk, answered calls to the office with a welcoming voice, responded to late-night urgent emails, and coordinated critical resources to help anyone in distress. Her support was instrumental in helping more than 3,400 UNLV student veterans graduate from college.

“She simply made the MVSC operation work,” said Ross Bryant, executive director of  the MVSC and Sharon’s longtime colleague and friend. “She will be remembered for her infectious smile, her upbeat attitude and genuine care for every veteran or military family member who walked into the office.”

Sharon is survived by her three sisters and three daughters. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 12 at Palm Northwest Mortuary, and a funeral service is scheduled for May 13. Full details are available on the Palm Mortuary website

Additionally, the UNLV MVSC staff will host a campus remembrance for Sharon at 10 a.m. May 26 at the UNLV Veterans Memorial as part of the group’s planned Memorial Day ceremony. A reception will follow.
