How has your undergrad experience at UNLV been thus far?

I love going to UNLV, especially the diversity our campus has to offer. This summer I spent some time at the University of Indiana for AMA’s Diversity Leadership Institute. Hearing stories from other schools really makes me appreciate how great the diversity at our campus is. Originally, I had the mindset of just completing my classes and graduating, but I got involved with AMA, now I consider it one of my best decisions. I got real marketing experience and built a network of current and future marketers.

What has been your highlight as president of AMA?

There have been many great moments as president, but my highlight is hosting our Western Regional Conference, with our theme being Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion. We had the opportunity to learn from the other schools at the conference, and share our experiences at one of the most diverse universities in the country.

What Marketing course has been your favorite and why?

MKT 425, Global Consumer Behavior and The Consumer Experience. One of the reasons this is my favorite course is because of the professor, Dr. Marla Stafford, she did an amazing job at being inclusive, engaging, and passionate about the topic. Another reason is because of my love for psychology, this course had a focus on the human psychological process that explains how consumers make their purchase decisions.

Do you have any tips for creating a personal brand?

The best tip I have for creating your own personal brand is Be Genuine. Sometimes when we network or have job interviews, we focus too much on presenting ourselves as a perfect person/candidate, where we end up coming off robotic or repetitive. When you’re genuine you really let your strengths stand out. When people see the real you, that can build more authentic relationships allowing your personal brand to grow.

What are your plans for the future? (Marketing, personal life, and academia)

After graduation I am focusing on my career. Right now, I work in banking and I am planning on transitioning into the marketing team. I also have a couple of trips planned for the second half of the year. I plan on visiting friends in Chicago, and spending some time with my family in Mexico. Other than that, I plan to enjoy life and continue to learn.
