On behalf of UNLV President Keith Whitfield and Executive Vice President and Provost Chris Heavey, we invite you to our inaugural STEM Education Meet on Friday, February 10. In what will be the first of a series of events focused on K-graduate STEM and STEAM education, we are gathering to share high impact practices designed to facilitate STEM and ensure equal opportunity of success for all of our students.
Starting at 8:30am and wrapping up at 1:30pm, the event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Okhee Lee, renowned STEM education equity scholar from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, and luncheon speaker Dr. Rob Rippee of UNLV’s Blackfire Innovation on how to foster creativity through our teaching. We will also hear from the Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation & Technology via the Nevada Regional STEM Network and its host of offerings.
The rest of the program will consist of sharing the high impact practices that our own UNLV scholars are implementing from K-12 to undergraduate and graduate studies, much of it funded by the National Science Foundation.
We hope this well-spent morning will leave you with actionable ideas to help your students and fruitful connections with existing programs and like-minded teachers, researchers, and administrators. Together we can ensure that our state ultimately develops a workforce to meet the scientific and technological challenges of the present and the future.
