Graham Hatfull, Eberly Family Professor of Biotechnology in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Professor, will be the featured speaker at the 2020 Juanita Greer White Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Science and Engineering Building (SEB) Auditorium. His talk is titled, "The Wonderful World of Bacteriophages: Discovery, Dynamics, and Therapy."
Phages are viruses that infect bacteria. Their ancestry is ancient and they are the most numerous biological entities in the biosphere. These viruses are of considerable genetic and technological utility, including therapeutic potential for treating highly antibiotic resistant mycobacterial infections. The isolation and characterization of phages is also the focus of a large, integrated research-education initiative centered on discovery-based undergraduate research.
Seating is limited. Please RSVP via email to firstname.lastname@example.org with “White Lecture” as your subject header.
