Dear UNLV Community,
As you are aware, COVID-19 is currently being transmitted in our Las Vegas community. Within the past 24 hours, UNLV has been informed that a member of the campus community has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). The individual was last on the Shadow Lane campus on August 19, 2021. The individual is recovering and is following protocols set by state health officials and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
When an individual is confirmed to have COVID-19, the Southern Nevada Health District determines who they may have had close contact with and guidance is provided directly to those individuals. The Southern Nevada Health District emphasizes that those most at risk from COVID-19 include people who have had daily repeated and prolonged exposure. The university is sending this notification out of an abundance of caution because the individual visited a public space on campus August 19, 2021. Public health officials maintain the risk is low for people who have had brief contact with an infected individual. Individuals who are fully vaccinated do not need to quarantine and should self-monitor for symptoms.
As a reminder, all students, faculty and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are asked to complete the voluntary online reporting form. Doing so triggers a campus case investigation, allowing the university to determine close contacts and/or send a notification such as this one when necessary.
Vaccinations are the best available tool to ending the pandemic and the challenges faced by COVID-19. Vaccines are currently available to students, faculty, and staff on campus. More information regarding vaccination and testing resources on campus can be found here.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation in Nevada and throughout the country, and we will continue to share information specific to UNLV through official channels, including unlv.edu/coronavirus. The site includes links to health resources, university operations, current announcements, and other important information. This notification complies with Clery Act requirements.
