Dear University of Nevada Las Vegas Community,
As you are aware, COVID-19 is currently being transmitted in our Las Vegas community. Within the past 24 hours, UNLV has been informed that a member of the campus community has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19). The individual was last on the main campus on January 6, 2022.
When an individual is confirmed to have COVID-19, the Southern Nevada Health District determines who they may have had close contact with and guidance is provided directly to those individuals. The Southern Nevada Health District emphasizes that those most at risk from COVID-19 include people who have had daily repeated and prolonged exposure. Public health officials maintain the risk is low for people who have had brief contact with an infected individual.
As a reminder, all students, faculty and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are asked to complete the voluntary online reporting form. This allows the university the opportunity to investigate the case and determine close contacts the individual may have had, and/or send a notification such as this one when necessary.
Vaccinations – and subsequent boosters – are the best available tool to mitigate the pandemic and the challenges faced by COVID-19. Vaccines are currently available to students, faculty, and staff on campus. More information regarding vaccination and testing resources on campus can be found here.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation in Nevada and throughout the country, and we will continue to share information specific to UNLV through official channels, including unlv.edu/coronavirus. The site includes links to health resources, university operations, current announcements, and other important information. This notification complies with Clery Act requirements.
