Job Description

If so, our Media Relations Student Office Assistant job may be for you. This position is responsible for providing writing and general clerical support to the Office of Media Relations. Our department is responsible for sharing human stories that highlight UNLV’s mission, and assisting media outlets seeking to report on the university, its research, or expertise. We are seeking an enthusiastic self-starter, whose duties would include: answering phones and logging messages, responding to emails, compiling daily news clips/stories about UNLV, assisting with media requests, and other duties as assigned. The student office assistant will also have the opportunity to interview professors and students and write newspaper-style articles for the UNLV News Center, draft content for UNLV social media sites, and pitch story ideas and events to the media — making this the perfect gig for a student majoring in Journalism/Media Studies, English, Creative Writing, or a related field looking to gain experience.


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (please provide writing samples, if possible)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Docs
  • Knowledgeable in using social media sites
  • Skilled in proofreading and ability pay attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently without direct supervision
  • Dependable, organized, courteous, and maintain a professional demeanor

Candidates must provide a resume, a copy of their most recent college transcript, and two professional or academic references. Candidates must also be enrolled in at least 6 credits and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Prior work experience is preferred but not required. The position is currently open and the successful candidate can begin immediately. The position is eligible for renewal each semester that the student is enrolled.


20 hours per week


$10.00 hourly
