UNLV is set to make a significant contribution to Southern Nevada's healthcare sector through a $3 million grant from Nevada's Department of Health & Human Services. The university will support 75 graduate students training to become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. This initiative will not only provide valuable opportunities for these highly-skilled healthcare professionals but also contribute to the overall enhancement of healthcare services in the region.

UNLV ranks as one of the best universities in the nation for veterans. Viqtory's annual Military Friendly Schools rankings placed UNLV in the top 10 among all "tier one" universities in the country.

UNLV's Physics and Astronomy department is at the forefront of astrophysics, with professor Bing Zhang and an international team of astrophysicists' discovery of a unique cosmological gamma-ray burst that defies prevailing theories of how the violent cosmic explosions form. This remarkable burst, described as an "oddball," has led the team to propose a new model specific to certain types of bursts.

UNLV research professor Kristen Averyt has been named the director for drought and western resilience for the White House Council on Environmental Quality. With a long track record in diverse climate-related fields, including western water resources, the energy-water nexus, and climate resilience and adaptation, Averyt is poised to drive transformative actions and policies in the U.S.

Jeremy Cho

Engineering professor Jeremy Cho leads a team that’s studying atmospheric water harvesting — or capturing water vapor in the air around us — and transforming it into drinkable water. His approach is designed for low-humidity environments like our Mojave Desert. His work landed a nearly $600,000, highly competitive grant from the National Science Foundation.

KUNV Radio 91.5 FM, housed within the UNLV Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies, was named 2022's local smooth jazz station of the year by the national Smooth Jazz Network. The award recognizes the dedication of UNLV students and staff to captivate listeners with quality radio programming.

UNLV Nursing maintained its position at the top of the U.S. News & World Report rankings for the Best Graduate Degrees nationwide. Both the online master’s in nursing and the family nursing practitioner programs ranked 10th, followed by the nurse educator track which ranked 11th. These rankings continue to solidify UNLV's reputation as a top university for students seeking a high-quality education paired with the flexibility of online learning.

Professor Tyler D. Parry of the African American and African Diaspora Studies program recently won the Wayland D. Hand Prize from the American Folklore Society for his book, Jumping the Broom: The Surprising Multicultural Origins of a Black Wedding Ritual. This prize reflects UNLV's culture of celebrating diversity and supporting its community as a minority serving institution.
