Stop the Bleed: Med Student Brings Life-Saving Program to Las Vegas
The October 1, 2017 mass shooting made Ginger Christian, a UNLV medical school student, wonder how she could help the community. Since uncontrolled bleeding is the number one cause of preventable death from trauma, one of her professors suggested starting a local training effort built on the national Stop the Bleed campaign. Christian began the program with students in her own medical school class and then assisted with training students in the classes of 2021 and 2022 as well as expanding training into the community. Her efforts have resulted in a Community Engagement Student Service Award.
