UNLV clinical sports psychologist Brad Donohue has studied the mental health of athletes and how they cope with the ups and downs of their sports. He discusses the Netflix docuseries “Losers,” which explores how elite athletes have learned from their failures. Donohue has developed a program tailored to athletes, from young participants to elite achievers. His program, The Optimum Performance Program in Sports (TOPPS), blends traditional mental health services in sports settings and develops customized performance coaching. He has been working with UNLV Athletics along with the National Institutes of Health to conduct the first NIH-funded mental health study involving college athletes.
