Shell Access
A shell is a program that provides the traditional, text-only user interface for UNIX-like operating systems. Its primary function is to read commands that are typed into a console or terminal window and then execute them. Shell access is required for setting up password protection or editing cgi scripts you've installed in your cgi-bin directory.
If you haven't used a shell account before, you'll need the following tools to get started:
- A terminal application, such as Secure Shell (Windows) or Terminal (Mac OS X)
- Knowledge of UNIX commands
- Shell access (see below)
