STUDENT CONDUCT HEARING BOARD

Individuals serving on the Student Conduct Hearing Board will receive invaluable training on the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Student Conduct Code policies and procedures. After completing the initial training, individuals will have the opportunity to serve on student conduct hearing panels that serve to provide a fair process to students in determining UNLV Student Conduct Code violations, as well as appropriate sanctions. This involvement opportunity allows students to interact with faculty and staff in a unique setting to educate students and student organizations of their rights and responsibilities. The skills and experiences gained provide the opportunity to increase communication and leadership skills benefiting participants today and into the future.

PEER MEDIATION COUNCIL

We are looking for individuals who are willing to participate in the Peer Mediation Training program. This training is an intense experience spanning several hours and three days. Once you have completed this, you will be qualified to serve as a certified Peer Mediator at UNLV. Learn great conflict resolution and communication skills!

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Academic Integrity Appeal Board
Members will come from a variety of areas on campus and will serve a two-year term. Each Dean’s Office / Director’s of Health and Human Services Office shall designate two (2) undergraduate students and two (2) graduate students to serve from that area. Let OSC or your academic department office know if you are interested! When an appeal of an academic misconduct case is forwarded to the Academic Integrity Appeal Board, the hearing panel for each case will consist of the following, drawn from the pool:

  • Two (2) faculty
  • One (1) student (undergraduate or graduate, as appropriate to the hearing)
  • One (1) administrator / professional staff member
  • One (1) member of the UNLV Faculty Senate Academic Standards Committee, who will serve as Chair of the Board
Before serving on an Academic Integrity Appeal Board hearing, members shall complete an orientation and training on academic integrity and misconduct. Recruitment, training and facilitation of the Academic Integrity Appeal Board will be the responsibility of the Office of Student Conduct, in collaboration with the UNLV Faculty Senate; and with appropriate authority and jurisdiction being afforded to university designees as dictated in the NSHE and UNLV Student Conduct Codes.

Academic Integrity Appeal Board
Facilitators will have the opportunity to receive training to prepare them to co-facilitate (with UNLV staff) a multi-session seminar designed to introduce, emphasize, and reinforce both academic and personal integrity. This seminar is designed specifically for students who have been found responsible for academic misconduct; and will be an exciting challenge for those students who wish to co-facilitate!
