Tips for New Students

Read ALL the material that UNLV sends you.

  • It is best for you to arrive at UNLV at LEAST two weeks before classes begin!
  • Report to the school on your I-20/DS-2019 no later than the "Report Date" indicated on the I-20/DS-2019.
  • Report only to the school whose I-20/DS-2019 you use to enter the U.S.
  • Bring important medical certificates and dental records.
  • Bring your birth certificate, marriage certificate, and international driver's license.
  • Bring enough money to cover your first month's expenses. You will need to pay for local transportation, UNLV student fees, tuition, books and supplies, housing, mandatory health insurance premiums, clothing, and many other miscellaneous items.
  • If you are an F-1 student transferring from a school within the U.S., ask your current school's international student advisor to transfer your SEVIS record to UNLV, please read these transfer instructions.

International Students at UNLV

Health Insurance and Student Health Center

Student Health Center

This center provides general health care information and medical care for illness and injury. There is no additional charge for office visits. Lab tests, medications, and supplies are offered at reduced costs. Payment for services outside of the center is the student's responsibility.

Student Health Insurance

All F-1 UNLV international students are REQUIRED to purchase UNLV health insurance. International students are automatically charged health insurance fees when they register for classes. Optional dental coverage and vision insurance may also be purchased.

Heatlh Insurance ID Cards for Continuing UNLV Students

Current UNLV international students can print an official Health insurance ID Card from the health insurance company's website. If you have paid your tuition for the current semester, you can print your card. Go to this website http://www.unlvinsurance.com You will be forwarded to UNLV's portion of the website.

Health Insurance Claim Forms and instructions for Continuing UNLV Students

UNLV's health insurance company, Associated insurance Plans International, Inc, provides helpful information for current UNLV students on their website at http://www.unlvinsurance.com. If you need a claim form, or instructions about how to file a claim, you can find such information on this website.
